What is Adware?

Adware or advertising-supported software is computer software often bundled with programs that automatically displays advertising banners or pop-ups on the computer without formal consent. Designers of adware programs often code adware to monitor user behavior. This allows the software to target ads to computer users.

Adware is different than most malware or spyware programs because it's not intended to steal personal information. Instead, it aims to hijack computer systems for use as marketing vehicles.

Malware, Adware, and Spyware Detection and Removal

Some adware programs, however, take the form of spyware and malware that monitor, track and compile user activity which is often resold without user consent.
